Does Asylett Press charge any fees for the publication of a book?
No, we do not charge any publication or setup fees of any sort. We are a non-subsidy press.
What percentage of royalties does Asylett Press pay and how often are they paid?
We typically pay 40% royalties on all electronic releases. Royalties of print releases are based on the electronic book price. Royalties are paid quarterly.
How are books chosen for release in print format?
All of our full-length novel titles are released in both electronic and tradesized paperback versions. We do not have time or sales figure restrictions on our titles.
Why doesn't Asylett Press accept "simultaneous submissions?"
It takes time to read and evaluate each submission we receive. If an author submits his her work to several publishers at one time, we may be reading work that he or she has already committed to another publishing house. The result is time and effort wasted on a book we cannot contract when we could have been concentrating on submissions by authors who are interested in working with Asylett Press.
Is there some reason for the particular font and format submission requirements indicated?
When we decide to publish a submission, we usually work with the original file sent to us. This file will be converted in varying formats for ebook and print book production, as well as formats for submission to various vendors with whom we are contracted. A clean file in a common base font, free of page numbers and style codes, is needed for this purpose.
Why are only the first three pages of a novel requested in an initial query?
The first three pages of a manuscript give us a feel for the quality and style of the author's writing. Together with the synopsis, we can determine whether the novel would be something we might wish to publish.
How long does it take for a submission to be read for consideration?
30 to 60 days. If we need more time we will contact the author.
How soon will my book be published after being contracted?
Generally we publish a novel within 6 to 7 months of the contract date, however, we make every attempt to release all contracted novels no later than 12 months from the contract date. The electronic version of the book is released first; the print version is released the following month.
What sort of edit will my book receive?
Your book will undergo an intensive line edit, where necessary changes will be made. Thereafter it will be subjected to a copyedit for additional corrections. The author will make a third review of the galleys. The electronic and print versions will each undergo individual copyedits and galley reviews.
May I provide my own cover art?
Asylett Press provides cover art at no charge, however, authors may provide their own cover art at their own expense, if they choose.
Will Asylett Press help me obtain reviews for my book?
Asylett Press will offer your book for review at sites appropriate for your genre, however, we cannot guarantee your book will be reviewed. Due to the increased demand for book reviews, sites are not able to read every book submitted.
